News, Cost & Carbon Calculator

It's been an exciting few weeks at Eco Ninjas, with two major press releases shining a spotlight on a critical issue in operating theatres: unclear identification and how our Theatre Badge Hats are helping solve it.

Why Identification Matters

Misidentification happens every single day in UK theatres. Recent examples include a birthing partner repeatedly mistaken for staff during the delivery of his twins, and a neonatal matron who mistook the father of a critically ill baby for a doctor. For years, this has been accepted as 'just the way it is' — but it doesn't have to be anymore. Our Theatre Badge Hats make it easy to identify who's who, improving safety, communication, and patient confidence.

The Financial & Environmental Case

Our recent articles reveal the collective savings NHS and private hospitals could achieve by switching from single-use hats to reusable badge hats. This simple change reduces waste, saves money, and enhances safety. Coverage has included Midlands News on how badge hats could save £20m a year, and the i Paper feature on our broader impact.

New: Cost & Carbon Calculator

To help hospitals build their business case, we've just launched our Cost & Carbon Calculator. Simply enter your operating theatres' current use of disposable hats, and the calculator will show annual savings in cost and carbon emissions, plus the long-term impact over the lifespan of our reusable badge hats. These calculations help gain approval from procurement teams by clearly demonstrating both financial and environmental benefits.

Propel Programme

We're thrilled to join the Propel Programme for Yorkshire & Humber. Over the next six months, we'll learn from innovators who've transformed patient care, and work with leaders to accelerate the impact of our Theatre Badge Hats.

On the Ground: Great Weston Hospital

This week, we're visiting Great Weston Hospital Maternity Theatres, where staff have been using our badge hats for months. Thanks to a diversity grant, they've introduced inclusive options like hijabs and braided hats, making every team member feel valued.

We're continuing conversations with NHS Trusts and private organisations about moving away from disposables to reusable, enhanced alternatives. Change takes time — but we're here to support every step.
