Working towards a safer and more sustainable

Badges
Sizing
All badges are 10cm x 5cm.
The Yellow and Orange badges have a black border and the other colours with white text have a white border.
Our badges are digitally printed onto a coated polyester substrate and laminated with a protective film. They have excellent resistance to industrial laundering with accreditation to ISO 11611 and have flame retardant properties.
Regarding the characters of names and roles on the hats, we suggest using no more than 20 characters. Shorter names are easier and quicker to read, which is particularly important in surgical settings, where quick identification and clear communication are essential. Limiting the length of names ensures they can be easily seen and called out, improving efficiency during surgery.

The choice of names printed on your name badges is entirely up to the individuals, allowing for personal preference. However, evidence suggests that using first names on name badges may enhance patient safety. This approach helps improve communication and promotes a more approachable environment, making it easier for patients to address healthcare staff directly. Clear identification of team members by their first names can reduce confusion, foster trust, and facilitate better patient interactions, ultimately contributing to safer and more effective care.
“Professional roles and hierarchies remain important in healthcare. Different people have different training or experience, and it’s important to have clear team leadership and responsibilities, especially in emergency care. But first names are part of a push to build strong team working, flatten hierarchies, and improve patient safety by making it easier for less senior team members or different clinical professionals to question senior doctors and “stop the line” before avoidable harm occurs”. Although we offer 4 sizes in our elastic back hats, we recommend that staff with long, thick hair opt for our specially designed hammock style for enhanced comfort. Research has shown that wearing hair up for extended periods can cause follicular damage, traction alopecia, and headaches. The hammock design gently cradles the hair, reducing tension and providing additional comfort for wearers with long hair, helping to prevent discomfort and potential hair damage during long shifts.
Traction alopecia
“If a hat is worn too tightly and puts excessive tension on the hair follicles, it could lead to a condition called traction alopecia. This type of hair loss is caused by constant pulling on the hair and is more commonly associated with hairstyles like tight braids or ponytails, but wearing a tight hat or helmet for extended periods could also contribute”. (Lloyds Pharmacy).
Our elastic back hats are a traditional style designed with latex-free elastic at the back to securely hold hair in place, ensuring a comfortable fit for the wearer.
The fabric is made from polycotton, with the cotton providing breathability and the polyester ensuring durability. This blend allows the hats to withstand frequent washing, sterilization, and maintain their shape and integrity over time.
These hats are also ideal for commercial laundering, one of the many benefits of our badge hat range. The 145gsm lightweight fabric promotes good air circulation, which is particularly important during long surgical procedures.

Hammock badge hat
Sizing
One size fits all, making it a versatile option, and it’s especially great for very long hair. The design ensures a comfortable fit for a wide range of head sizes and hair types, offering ease and support for those with longer hair.
We designed our hammock style hat specifically for individuals with long, thick hair who struggle to fit all their hair comfortably into a traditional elastic back hat, and for those who experience sore heads from wearing their hair up tightly all day.
Tight hairstyles, commonly worn by operating theatre staff, can put significant tension on the hair, which increases the risk of traction alopecia. This condition, which results from continuous pulling on the hair (e.g., tight ponytails, braids, or weaves), can lead to hair follicle damage, split ends, and headaches. For staff working in operating theatres, where hair must be securely tied up for up to 12 hours a day, the impact of tight hairstyles combined with the prolonged pressure of wearing a hat can exacerbate these issues.
To address this, we carefully designed the hammock hat, which gently cradles the hair in a downward pouch, allowing the hair to fall in the same direction as gravity, rather than against it. This design reduces the tension placed on the hair, helping to prevent traction alopecia and providing greater comfort for those working long hours in demanding environments.
Our hammock hat is an ideal alternative to traditional theatre hats, offering a balance between maintaining hygiene and safety while promoting healthy hair care practices. In a complex, high-pressure environment, comfort is crucial, and we believe our hammock hat provides the solution for better hair care and overall well-being during long shifts.

Bandana badge hat
Sizing
One size fits all
As men typically have shorter hair, we have been able to design a one-size-fits-all bandana theatre hat which has various benefits. Our bandana is unisex and great for ladies also, however, if a person has long hair, we recommend that hats with elastic are chosen to hold the hair in place comfortably.
Our adjustable bandana is both versatile and convenient because they can be worn by individuals with different head sizes, making them suitable for a wide range of people. The adjustable fold at the front of our bandana and ties at the back allows secure fastening and a great fit which allows for easy customisation to achieve a comfortable fit.
Our adjustable bandanas enable easy ordering as head sizes don’t need to be measured so hats can be ordered quickly and easily.

Braided badge hat
Sizing
This one size braided hat is ideal for individuals with long, thin hair braids that reach down to the hips and those who have short voluminous curls. This hat provides ample coverage and ensures that long, thin braids and short voluminous curls are securely contained, minimising the risk of contamination in the surgical field. For those with thicker or longer braids, we offer an XL size.
We offer two sizes of hats designed specifically for hair braids. The regular braided hat is ideal for individuals with thin, long hair braids that reach down to the hips. This hat provides ample coverage and ensures that long, thin braids are securely contained, minimising the risk of contamination in the surgical field. For those with thicker or shorter braids, we offer a larger size to accommodate different hair types.
For clinical staff, including surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, wearing braided hair in a surgical setting can present specific challenges. Braided hair can be more difficult to fully cover and contain under traditional surgical caps, which may increase the risk of contamination in the sterile field. Loose hairs from braids can fall into the surgical area, posing an infection risk and causing added concern for clinicians about contamination. Additionally, generic disposable hats may rip or become too loose, compromising their effectiveness.
Maintaining a sterile environment in surgery is critical, which is why we developed a reusable theatre hat designed to accommodate varying braid lengths and thicknesses. Our braid-specific hat covering helps minimize the risk of introducing contaminants into the surgical field. It also provides a more comfortable and secure fit, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on the surgical procedure without worrying about hair-related issues.
We believe our hat is a suitable alternative to traditional theatre caps, offering a solution that balances hygiene, safety, and healthy hair maintenance. In such a high-pressure, complex environment, comfort is key, and our hat provides that while supporting optimal performance throughout long shifts.
